Patent : Olympus 8-24mm f/4 Lens

Olympus filed a new patent for a wide angle zoom lens in Japan. The patent application describes a Olympus 8-24mm f/4 lens designed for Micro Four Thirds system mirrorless cameras.

 will also be a pro-grade constant aperture lens for enthusiasts and professional photographers that need an ultra wide-angle zoom lens. It will be equivalent of 16-48mm in 35mm terms.

If becomes in mass production this Olympus 8-24mm f/4 lens would be an ideal choice for travel and landscape photography.

Updated Olympus M.Zuiko Digital Lens Roadmap

Olympus has released an updated lens roadmap showing three new lenses, including two new PRO lenses, as well as an affordable telephoto zoom lens.

According to the new M.Zuiko digital lens roadmap these lenses are the M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-45mm F4.0 PROM.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS and an as yet unspecified “pro telephoto zoom” lens.

The ED 100-400mm f/5.0-6.3 IS lens will give a 200-800mm equivalent and should give a more budget friendly entry into the super telephoto zoom arena. There are additional PRO lenses shown, including two telephoto zoom lenses, one wide-zoom lens, and a range of “bright prime lenses”, however details have not yet been released for these.

New Olympus 500mm MFT Lens is in the Works

The Japanese website Newswitch published an interview with Olympus executive officer Shigemi Sugimoto.

From the interview, “A super telephoto lens that reaches 1000mm in full frame equivalent is under development, and it will reach 2000mm with a 2x teleconverter.”

As you might remember back in June, Olympus has officially announced the 2X teleconverter MC-20 (Adorama | B&H) that is compatible with the company’s 40-150mm f/2.8 and 300mm f/4 Pro lenses. The M.Zuiko Digital 2x Teleconverter MC-20 will also compatible with the 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS Pro which is currently under development.

This teleconverter doubles the focal length of the master lens, and features dustproof, splashproof and freezeproof (-10°C) professional weatherproof construction for outstanding optical performance ideal for even the most severe environmental conditions.

Patent : Tamron 485mm f/5.8 Lens for Micro Four Thirds

Tamron has filed a new patent in Japan. This patent describes a Tamron 485mm f/5.8 lens for mirrorless cameras with Micro Four Thirds image sensors.

If we see this in mass production than it would be Tamron’s second optic for Micro 4/3rds. First one released back in mid-2014 as the Tamron 14-150mm F/3.5-5.8 Di III ($399).
