Sony is reportedly working on a full-frame sensor which will shoot 102 MP photos and 6K videos. The sensor is named as IMX555CQR and it will shoot high-resolution photos in 12,288 x 8,192 image size (that’s 12K in video terms).
The sensor also provides digital readout for 16-bit still images. As for video, the sensor is supposed to shoot 6K video in 12-bit using pixel binning mode.
Sony 102MP IMX555CQR sensor features:
- 102MP, 12288 x 8192
- A pixel binning mode for 12bit 6K video
- 4K RGB 4:4:4 video with on-chip colour-aware binning
- 10fps
According to recent reports, the cameras that are likely to have 8K video in the near future are Sony A9 II, A7S III , A7R IV, Nikon D860 and the Nikon Z8. But out guess is that the next Sony A7R IV could use this 102MP Sony IMX555CQR sensor.
