  1. I love the way you are talking about the big Sony monofocal long reach lenses. It is exactly the way I feel about it. It is almost impossible to make a clear cut decision. I had the chance to test both, the 400 and 600 mm on a A9 body. It is difficult to use the 600 on fast moving subjects like horse racing, dog racing due to the very narrow filed in the view finder. But the 600 gives great results that I personally prefer over the 400. I amused to 600 mm with the Canon lenses. My combo as wildlife photographer is the new Sony 600 f/4 and the new zoom 200-600. Although the later is softer, no doubt about htis
