Upcoming Nikon Cameras and Lenses in 2021

So you probably asking what will be the impact of the new $6,500 Sony a1 camera on Nikon? What is Nikon planning to compete against the rivals Canon and Sony?

According to the recent reports, 8K Nikon camera will arrive this Spring/Summer, with advanced core specifications. You can find a good recap of all the Nikon cameras and lenses that we expect from Nikon in 2021:

Nikon Z Mirrorless Cameras

Nikon Z30:

Nikon will announce an entry-level APS-C Z-mount mirrorless camera sitting below Nikon Z50 in the first half of 2021. Latest rumors indicates that the new model will not have EVF.

Nikon Z30 rumored specifications:
  • 24.2 MP CMOS sensor
  • 4K 24p, 30p video recording
  • 3.2″ 1.04m-dot LCD screen
  • No EVF design
  • Support Wifi, Bluetooth connection
  • EN-EL15c battery
  • Single SD memory card slot
  • Announcement in the first half of 2021

Nikon Z9 / Nikon Z8:

Nikon will launch a counterattack with its own 8K camera (Nikon Z9?) to compete against the Sony a1 and the possible Canon EOS R1. The rumored Nikon Z1 / Z9 model (name is not confirmed yet) likely to have a 45.7MP sensor with the same pixel count as the Z7 II. The official announcement will be around Spring / Summer 2021.

  • 20 fps
  • 8k30p, 4k120/60/30p
  • New EXPEED processor designed for 8k
  • Improved AF (Object detection AF)

  • ISO 64 – 25,600, Hi1, Hi2
  • High resolution, blackout-free EVF
  • New user interface (no second LCD screen on the back like the D6)
  • New battery: Nikon EN-EL18x
  • Gbit LAN, USB-C, WiFi, GPS
  • Price: $6,000 – $7,000
  • Prototype Z9 cameras may be tested at the Tokyo Olympics next year
  • New Nikkor Z 400mm f/2.8 mirrorless lens is also rumored for the Olympics
  • Nikon Z9 is described as a D6 body combined with EOS R5 imaging, a9 II AF, and blackout-free EVF
  • Announcement in Spring / Summer 2021
