Sony a7S III to Use 15MP IMX521CQR Sensor ?

The upcoming Sony a7S III camera is rumored to use the 15MP Sony IMX521CQR sensor which was first leaked several months ago.

The long awaited Sony a7S III is expected to be announced in early 2020, probably at NAB Show in April. It is very likely that Sony a7S III will use this 15MP IMX521CQR sensor, you can take a look at full specs sheet of IMX521CQR below. Sony a7S III will shoot 4K60p video, and a possible of 61MP mode.

Below are rumored specs of upcoming Sony a7SIII:

  • Sony a7S III will shoot 4K video at 120p, but it will not shoot 8K video.
  • Sony a7S III will have a cooling fan similar as recently announced Panasonic Lumix S1H. (see here)
  • We think for the Sony A7S III,  the company will choose the 24MP BSI sensor (not stacked) from the Sony A7 III. As always take it with a grain of salt and stay tuned with us for more information.
